2011 Spring/Summer Makeup Trends

My favorite seasons are coming up, and I am SO excited! :D Spring and Summer are amazing for hair/makeup looks, I feel like you have a bit more freedom to experiment with more color and different styles in the warmer months. So, here's the trends. ;)

#1. Bold Lips

If you're going to do this looks, beware of the fails of bright lips. Too much red makes you look

like a clown, sparkly hot pink makes you look like Barbie, and too much orange...Well, you don't wanna look like you were making out with an Oompa Loompa, do you?

Stick to matte hot pinks and oranges if that's the look you're trying. And I will post a tutorial on red lips for everyone. :)

As for the rest of the face, stick to neutral. You don't wanna look like a clown, so accentuate your lashes with some black mascara and if you're doing a nighttime look try to water only your bottom waterline to add some more drama to the look.

#2. Natural, Beach Babe.

Now, natural makeup seems like you would just roll out of bed and say "Okay, I'm ready!" but, it's not. There's always ways to accentuate your natural beauty such as bronzer and curling your lashes.

Okay ladies, when I say bronzer I do NOT mean Snooki status. Lightly dust the bronzer over your T-Zone, and you can also use it to hollow out your cheeks and make your face look slimmer. :)

#3. Bright colors on the eyes

Don't go crazy with this, maybe use a bright eyeliner on the upper lashline or use a bright eyeshadow and keep the rest of the face neutral. Unless you're daring enough to rock the Christian Dior-esque bright eye makeup with the red lips, which can be rocked with the right outfit and right skintone. :)

#4. Smokey Eyes

The smokey eye will never lose it's beauty, but as long as it's done correctly. You don't wanna look like Avril Lavigne, no offense. Wear silver and black, light gray and charcoal gray, or blues to make your eyes pop. (Tutorial will be posted later.)

The Bleaching Process...

So, I'm a brunette naturally. But I personally think I'd be better off as a blonde, so I got a friend of mine's mom to do my hair this past weekend, and now I have about 50% blonde highlights and 50% brunette still. In about three weeks, I'm gonna go back and go completely blonde. :)

Rules for Bleaching;

#1. I hope to GOD you are not doing this by yourself. Unless you are a professional, I reccommend getting someone professional to bleach your hair. Things can go terribly wrong if you're doing it by yourself.

#2. Be prepared.

Your hair is going to be damaged after, split ends and dry hair GALORE. I highly suggest investing in a good deep conditioner for your hair, I'm currently using the Pantene Pro-V Deep Conditioner for Chemically Treated/Dyed Hair. It works really well to bring back some moisture. Do this once a week for ten minutes, then wash it out. :)

#3. Argan Oil!

The lady who did my hair gave me some of this oil after she did my hair and told me to use it whenever I was using heat on my hair and that it was going to help a LOT with the dryness. And that it has done very well, don't use too much though or your hair will look greasy.

#4. Make sure you'll look GOOD with light hair.

I can't stress this one enough. If your skintone won't look good with blonde hair, DON'T bleach it. Bleaching is very damaging, and hard to get back to the normal color of your hair once you do it. So before you do it, make sure you're serious about it.

If I could describe my natural color, I'd say it's a dark brunette with auburn in it.

By the way, if you're going from dark hair to light hair like mine, you CANNOT DO THIS without bleaching. Some people say you can just buy a light box color and it'll bring your shade up, and it doesn't. It might make it appear lighter, but you're base color is still staying dark. But I do recommend getting this done professionally. I wouldn't trust myself with bleach, since it's very damaging and if done wrong can be disasterous to your hair. (I'm talking, pink, neon yellow, or blue hair here!) and that's not good.

Hair Extensions 101.

So, here I am at 10:00 in the morning discussing hair extensions because a friend of mine came over to show me hers which looked awful. Now, some people can pull off extensions really well and it looks natural and very pretty on them, and some people just cannot pull them off. Face shape, hair/skin color, and even personality all contribute to how you can pull off entensions. Here's a few of my tips/tricks for hair extensions;

#1. Long, Black, Straight Hair

Okay, unless you want to look like that crazy witch lady that lives down the street from me or the chick from the Grudge, I do not recommend hair extensions that are long, straight, and completely black. Especially if your skin is on the pale end of the spectrum, you'll look like...well...

Yeah, that.

One way to fix this, layer out your natural hair with the extensions and try to use a salt spray to add some natural texture to your hair. Also, throw some curls in there. It might take a little longer when you're getting ready, but it's completely worth it to not look like ^

#2. 'Your tracks are showing'

This makes me beyond upset, if you're going to shell out the money to get hair extensions then don't SHOW everyone that they're extensions. Hair extensions are supposed to look natural, and when your tracks are showing that is NOT natural. If you don't know what I'm talking about, the track is the part where they lace the natural hair with the extensions.

#3. Natural Length

Your hair does not grow 16 inches overnight, and people ARE going to notice this. I hate when girls show up to school with hair down to their belly buttons and say that its not extensions. No one, not even celebrities, hair grows that fast. So start out with a natural length of extensions and work your way up to the 16" ones.

#4 Nasty Extensions

If you're going to spend the money on the extensions, take damn care of them! One thing Sammi from Jersey Shore has right is how she takes care of her extensions, aside from straightening them for 9 hours but that's besides the point, you have to brush them like normal hair, they need to be washed like normal hair. They ARE attached to your head which does have oils in it which goes onto the extensions which can ruin them if you don't wash them. Also, don't try to wear extensions if you're pulling the Britney Spears look with no hair, it looks awful, just go for a wig.

But yes, those are my tips on having good quality hair extensions. PLEASE, take these steps if you're using hair extensions so I don't see you on the street and steal your extensions because you can't take care of them!

The PROPER way to wear blue eyeshadow...

Every makeup artists worst fear is the dreaded, BLUE EYESHADOW.

It goes great with brown eyes, but if overdone can look like;

Yes, THAT.

Now, blue eyeshadow isn't completely out of the picture. Although for blue eyes, I don't recommend too much because it might wash out the color of your eyes. But, for you gals willing to try it ;) Try for something more balanced, and don't bring it above your crease. Bright colors above the crease make it look like 5 transvestites smacked you across the face, and you don't want that.

Try for something like this;

Notice she's gone very light with everything else, not too much on the lips just maybe a nude gloss and a peachy blush to make the face look a little more awake.

failProduct: FitMe! by Maybelline

Okay, this is one of those failProducts that I've stumbled upon. I wasn't a huge fan of the product itself, and the fact that there is no pump makes it kind of worse.

The product itself is kind of goopy and I'm not a huge fan of how runny it is.

One FixIt! product I recommend if you've bought this and are unsatisfied with it;

Dream Matte Mousse is one of my favorite foundations, it has amazing coverage and provides all-day wear. It's close to the same price as the FitMe! and it also to me is a lot better than the latter.

Forever 21 Cheetah Stiletto Heels. $24.80

These are SO cute, I can imagine dressing up a pretty casual outfit with these. Plus, in 5" heels, I'm 6'2" ;)

Product RAVE; Urban Decay - Cowboy Junkie Set

I'm not usually a big fan of Urban Decay products, but I got this from a friend a few week ago and absolutely fell in love with it.

-Midnight Cowboy [Champagne with silver accents]

-Midnight Cowboy Rides Again [Golden beige with gold and silver accents]

-Midnight Cowgirl [subtle Golden Beige w/ gold glitter]

-Romp [deep silvery grape]

And the 24/7 Glide On Pencil is in the color Whiskey, which is a dark brown. I absolutely love this set, and it works amazing for more neutral and fall looks which is what I mainly used it for.

M.A.C Wonder Woman Collection

While on that side of town the other day, I went to the M.A.C Store and tried out some of the 'Wonder Woman' Collection.

I'm a huge Comic nerd, and a huge makeup nerd, so when the two got combined I was ecstatic. But, I was highly disappointed with this collection in all honesty.

I didn't buy the collection, so I'm using Google images. But I was highly disappointed with the packaging and the colors of this collection. The 'Wonder Woman' lip gloss color is the exact same color as the 'Cyndi' from the Cyndi/Gaga collection. And I recommend that if you have the Cyndi color already, don't waste the $24.00 for the packaging which isn't all that great either.

One thing I was very happy with this in this collection was the Blush. The colors are 'Mighty Aphrodite' and 'Amazon Princess' both of which are great colors and highly pigmented which is great for blending. I really liked 'Mighty Aphrodite' better because it blended much easier and the color just looked much better.

Eyeshadow Quad 'Valiant'

Although the 1,2, and 4th colors were great and looked great when I swatched them on my hand. The 3rd color, the metallic green one, I was not pleased with at all. The consistency of the product was great, but I was disappointed with the color itself. Maybe it's my own personal preference, but I'm not big on army green on the eyes.

The other quads are 'Lady Justice' which is a lot of blues and silvers, which I really liked. And 'Defiance' which seemed more purple and pink, which kind of threw me for a loop, since when does Wonder Woman wear pink?

Another thing I absolutely LOVED about this collection was the nail polishes, well mostly just one of them, 'Spirit of Truth' is a deep blue nail lacquer. Which I had to splurge the $15.00 on, but I love how the color comes off and looks on my skintone.

That was my quick review of the Wonder Woman Collection by M.A.C Cosmetics. I'm gonna give it a 6/10 mostly because of the amazing nail polishes and blushes.

"You're like, an enigma wrapped inside a conundrum"

I'd like to think that I'm pretty chill, and since this is my first real blog I'd like to take the time to introduce myself :)

First things first,

My name is Chrissie. Yes, after Chrissie Hynde, who is a badass. I live in the middle of nowhere, and have ambitions to leave as SOON as possible. Currently, where I am it is -1 degrees after last night of it being -8 degrees.

I'm very opinionated, chances are if I see something that evokes some kind of emotion in me I will let everyone with earshot distance know.

I love makeup, a lot. I spend hours of my life in my room trying on new make-up looks, even practicing on my little 5 year old sister which always works out hilariously.

My life is kind of up in the air right now,

I'm hoping that if I have enough money after High school I can go to Florida, buy a place out there and then go to college.

But if it doesn't work out that way for me, I will go to the Army and become an Army Veterinary Technician and once I get done with my four years go to College and hopefully get a degree. But career wise, I'm torn between a Veterinarian or a Police Officer.

Police Officer? Yes, Police Officer. I've seen what my dad does on a daily basis, and it makes me have so much respect for him and what he has to put up with. And how he can balance being a sergeant and having a family, it always amazes me. And yes, I love animals and I love makeup but I can't see much benefits out of careers like that.

Like I said, it's kind of complicated. :)
